Israel Connections

The Israel Connections Committee co-sponsors and organizes Israeli movie and dinner nights, speakers on Israel and Middle East current events and festivities to celebrate Yom Ha-Atzmaut, Israel Independence Day. We share celebrations and religious school classroom visits with our sister community in Israel, Temple Or Hadash in Haifa.  We also support our community's participation in Israeli-related initiatives of the Greater Boston Jewish community, particularly the Combined Jewish Philanthropies' (CJP) Boston-Haifa Connection. Shir Tikva sponsors youth and member trips to Israel led by our Rabbi, Cantor and education staff.  The shared travel experiences establish lifelong bonds with temple friends and families, and a knowledge of Israel that enhances our Jewish life in Wayland.

The Adult Education committee and Israel Connections committee sponsor events such as:

1. Rabbi Joshua Weinberg, president of ARZA, speaking about the  2015 election of delegates to World Zionist Organization

2. Israeli Educator Alex Cicelsky discussing the ecology of Israel

3. Diane Cohen speaking about a unique Jewish Arab day school Ein Bustan

4. Prof. Andrea Berlin about her archeological digs in Israel

5. Rabbi David Starr delivering a twenty week Tzion program on the formation and past and current  issues of the state of Israel

6. Viewing and discussing several  Israeli films with the artistic director of the Boston Jewish Film Festival

New members are welcome to join the Israel Connections Committee. The Committee meets approximately three times during the year. Members plan and facilitate the temple's events about Israel. For more information contact the temple office.
