Chavurah Initiative Creates Nuclear Families

The chavurah initiative is an attempt to create small groups or “nuclear“ families within the larger extended family that is Temple Shir Tikva.

Chavurot are small groups of families who take turns getting together to celebrate Shabbat occasionally in each other’s’ homes, build a sukkah together, share the joys of going on a nature walk or a multi-family bike ride, and who share in each other’s’ simchas, or even help in the difficult times when we need each other more than ever.

Some chavurot are very homogeneous, for example a chavurah could be for families whose kids are all in elementary school or all in pre-school; another chavurah might be multi-generational by choice; one might create a chavurah whose members are all singles; or one could even be comprised of those who are interested in exploring alternative methods of spiritual practice such as meditation or mussar.  These chavurot can be whatever we wish them to be; they are small groups of “chaverim” who are practicing being Jewish together.

We’re hope you’re enthusiastic about this exciting way to build connections in the TST community.  If you want to learn more, make sure that you mark down our Chavurah kick-off dinner on April 27th after Shabbat services.  Join us for family friendly Friday night services and dinner.  At the dinner you will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with groups of temple members who are seeking similar Chavurah experiences, and there will be ways to start moving forward creating these groups.

Register by April 24 at www.shirtikva.org/chavurahdinner.

Interested in joining a Chavurah and unable to attend the dinner on April 27?  No problem at all.  Here is a link to a sign up form.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y3XezBmaP9TeVxjh3g_X9Xea3-Ks6iZGtXV9RMvKv8c/edit?usp=sharing
