Adult Education Presents: Micol Zimmerman Burkeman: Pop-Torah Talks
Date:
Meets as Scheduled

December 17:

I Don’t Roll on Shabbos: What does Shomer Shabbos really mean?

How did resting on the seventh day of creation transform into a long list of don’t’s?

Do “The Big Lebowski” and”The Frisco Kid”really have anything to teach us about the day of rest? In this session we will explore the meaning of Shabbat through film, television, and some good old conversation and perhaps even re-evaluate our own Shabbat observance.

February 11

Scripture, The Simpsons and Southpark on Suffering:

What do Job, Ned Flanders, and Kyle from South Park have in common?

Is it possible to laugh, while exploring the human response to suffering? Does God have anything to do with our pain and loss?

We will explore these questions and more, all while laughing until we cry, and perhaps crying until we laugh.
